Try getting a writing exercise book for German first graders. This is standard cursive writing throughout much of Europe, and not one too hard to read. At times it can get much, much worse.
(It was also referenced in an episode of Hetalia.)

oh don't worry, I come from the same country as you do (judging by the czech ending in your name), I read and write cursive on a daily basis. I just can't read this type of cursive.... and the fact that my german sucks doesn't help either

Kafka is definitely worth reading. I'd start with The Metamorphosis... but you don't have to....

To this day, this is one of the greatest anime adaptations of western stories. The only anime I've ever seen that has managed to grasp the genius of one of the greatest authors and minds in the history of literature, Franz Kafka.
